This year, I have decided that I wanted to write for a reason and not just for shits and giggles. I mean, I ALWAYS write cool little poems and whatnots in birthday cards and such, but I wanted to take it to a whole new level. So I took up "Writers Craft" - a creative writing class at school. Although I am ultimately shy and nervous in front of crowds of more than 5, I wanted to share my work with more than just my family, and so I decided to attempt to overcome my stupid fear of public speaking. At first , I'm not going to lie, I was scared shitless, especially after hearing it was the LARGEST class ever. But all it took was one shot... ignore everyone... pretend they aren't even there, and just let the words come out. It felt amazing, and I had finally started the overcoming of my fear. I love going to third period everyday now and sharing what I love to do most.
In the beginning, many people think that writing is all about personal, deep, dark pieces and sharing them and letting people know who you are. Although there is some of that, writing can be whatever you want it to be and make it out to be. I have learned from one man that you can take any tiny thing and turn it into a HUGE story in so many different ways. Your senses are the easiest way to make a story. Listen to a beat or song and write about what you hear and what it makes you think of. Eat some food, and write about the experience, the taste, and what it reminds you of. Look at a picture and turn that into the setting for your story. Touch an object, and write about what you feel or experiences you have had with something similar. Lastly, smell some food, an object, or even a person, and write about the smell, how awful it is and how it reminds you of a part in your life, or how amazing it is and how happy that smell makes you.
These are simply a few examples of what writing can be.
